Strawberry Way’s dark and mostly forgotten past began to change in the spring of 2003 when the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an accessible, clean and safe downtown environment, launched The Strawberry Way Enhancement Project to renovate the alleyway.

We are pleased to have worked with Jonathan Cox of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership; with Dina Klavon and Maria Riley of Klavon Design Associates, a local architectural firm specializing in urban environments; with Laurel Beckman, Professor of Digital Media at the University of California, Santa Barbara; and with Gerard Damiani, local architect and Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University, to add energy and vibrancy to the alley.

Our contributions include:

- Fabrication of 3 stainless steel illuminated sign boxes with frosted push-through acrylic letters.
- A 100-foot long row of illuminated rectangular light boxes.
- 4 round illuminated boxes containing images of human, animal and bird eyes.
- Stainless steel speaker housings for computer-generated, ever-changing sound effects powered by solar energy.
- Stainless steel plaques describing the art works.
